Such may be the case on May 10, at 7 p.m. when University of Tulsa (TU) art students unveil their work at an exhibit hosted by Trinity Episcopal Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The TU artists were given free access to the gothic church and asked to depict it in paintings, drawings, photographs and sculpture.

"Trinity has given our art students a great opportunity of fulfilling our mission of responsible citizenship and service in a changing world," said Susan Dixon, head of TU's art department.

The show has been curated by the TU Student Art Coalition, under the direction of TU student Michelle Stephens.

"Art serves many functions," Dixon said, "to express emotion, to educate, to communicate, and to challenge, but from the beginning art has been an expression of the relationship of humankind to the divine."

The exhibit, which is open to the public, will run the entire month of May.

Cash prizes will be awarded by Trinity to the top three winning entries and a $200 certificate for framing at Chelsea Gallery will go to the Best of Show entry. James Peck of Philbrook Museum will judge the exhibit.

Proceeds from the sales will be divided among the nonprofit organization Iron Gate to feed the hungry and homeless, the individual artists, and the TU Student Art Coalition.
