[Washington National Cathedral] Swiss lighting artist Gerry Hofstetter will soon bring his work to Washington National Cathedral for an exterior illumination in celebration of the Cathedral’s centennial.

Artistic images will be projected on the cathedral's south side May 9-11 and will be visible from all over Washington, D.C., since the cathedral sits on some of the highest grounds in the city.

Photo-projections illustrating the unity of humankind will be projected on the west side (Wisconsin Avenue). The images will illustrate the cathedral's mission of reconciliation, spotlighting its role as a spiritual beacon for the nation, and proclaiming hope for all mankind.

The event, called Lighting to Unite: Lighting the Nation, Uniting the World, runs May 9-11 beginning at sunset (around 8:30 p.m.) to midnight. On May 10, special evening is planned with music and food vendors on the Cathedral west front beginning at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.
